The creation of Michael Caines, one of the UKs best-known and most talented chefs, Mickeys Beach will serve food that is ‘fun and fabulous’ based on the outstanding local Devon produce that Michael has long championed.
Says Michael, “During these long months of Lockdown, I have dreamed of creating somewhere very special where we’ll all be able to rediscover the social joy of dining by the sea in beautiful, informal surroundings, enjoying fabulous and fun food, maybe just a drink or a cocktail and some delicious nibbles, or perhaps a midnight pizza after sunsets and cocktails. Mickeys Beach is just the place that I have dreamed about and I can’t wait to share it with you!”
On ground level, Mickeys Beach Bar offers informal dog-friendly, beachfront dining any time of day and night. Upstairs, Mickeys Beach Restaurant has both indoor dining as well as two fabulous outdoor terraces (one with retracting windows and roof) where you can easily immerse yourself in the stunning seaside surroundings, enjoying the most sweeping and panoramic views down the Devon coastline, or up the beautiful Exe estuary. In the evening, Mickeys Beach Bar becomes the destination for sunsets, cocktails and beats.
Michael and his team have developed menus that celebrate above all food that is fresh, fun, local and sustainable. Fish of the day comes from Exmouth docks, just a stroll away, and the fabulous shellfish of Lyme Bay takes pride of place too: scallops, Exmouth mussels, locally landed crab and lobster. Devon red ruby sirloin, ribeye and fillet steaks are expertly cooked on a real charcoal-fired grill, free-range chickens are cooked on a revolving rôtisserie, while a the best pizzas in the southwest are baked to perfection in a state-of-the-art pizza oven.
Drink is as local as the food, with Devon beers and ciders, as well as an increasing list of Devon wines taking pride of place, not forgetting a remarkable range of newly launched local gins, rums, whiskye. Mickeys Beach’s talented mixolgists have create a menu of exciting Mickeys Beach cocktails, utilising local mixers, that are fun, fresh and fabulous.
Sustainability and the determination to be as environmentally friendly as possible is part of the Mickeys Beach ethos. “We are located in such a stunningly beautiful part of the world,” says Michael, “and it is our responsibility to ensure that we keep Exmouth and our community as clean as possible.”
Mickeys Beach Bar & Restaurant is set to become a dining destination for both locals as well as visitors from far and wide. It is part of the brand-new Sideshore development that has transformed Exmouth seafront and made it a destination for both lovers of food and drink as well as of world class watersports activities such as kite surfing.
